So, the new year is nearly upon us, time to start researching for my pre-production! This includes basically getting my concept together, any ideas i may have, even if its as simple as a sentence.
I have chosen to be a script writer/director, with Timothy Wilcox serving as my producer and camera operator. Tim and I share great work ethic and that can only promote a great partnership for this year, which to me is the most important year out of all the three. I need to get this one right.
This way i can maximise the efficiency of the blog when it is then assessed. I have chosen to use the preproduction unit as a stepping stone to my major production unit early next year. This gives me plenty of time to create something special, devoting my time to a project that will be my best work to date.
To begin. I have a lot of ideas in my head (ofcourse i do, im a television student) but nothing sticks out to me more than building on what my fiction adaptation was. There was something about that project which really opened my eyes to what I could turn it into, The project was on of my most successful projects and whenever I talk to friends or family about the work i do at uni, it's normally the one I share.
I have an odd fascination with awkward, gritty films. My first year directions unit was essentially the same, following a person who is addicted to drugs. Maybe I can merge the two projects and see what I can get out of it.
The news plays a big part to me in how successful a film is. At the moment, it's all kicking off with the islamic state, UK citizens flying over to 'fight the good fight' as it goes. Only to be shocked that when they come home its not an easy task. Islamic state is a powerful terrorist organisation and being from a western culture, the impact they have on us far surpassess what Al Qaeda ever did. They have the money, connections that is quite scary actually. So what if I explore this concept? A man pushed to the edge in his own personal life, but finds solace in the Islamic state, he wants to create the next 7/7, and he is planning for it. He films himself for his final goodbye. That's how far i've got in the actual story though, early stages I know, but its always good to note it down. Because of my interest in the islamic state and how they use media to scaremonger, I have discovered some Jihadist nasheed (essentially an acapella song) which when i listen to, and read the lyrics, is actually quite indoctrinating, powerful music. IS use this a lot in their videos to create atmosphere and maybe this will influence our character. Here's one of the better ones i've heard...
Obviously given the nature of the storyline, I have to be careful i don't offend anyone, but to that, I say you can't please everyone. I am not parodying Islam, but I am using the Islamic State is a serious tone because this is a real issue in the world, nobody knows when the next massive terrorist attack will be, maybe abroad, maybe here. But it's something that will never be explained. Would you take your own life for the success of a terrorist regime?
Anyway, that's my thinking so far.
